Dev Log 2

Hello again! The Sad Ogre Studios team is back with another devlog update on the progress of Psyche. It's been an exciting week since our last update. We've made big strides on core gameplay functionality and started creating the environments that will make up the world of Psyche.

On the programming side, we've implemented:

  • Basic enemy AI behaviors so we can now spawn enemies that will move and follow/attack the player. There's still more work to do here but we have the foundations in place.
  • Expanded the player controller by adding falling, rolling, and attack animations that are triggered by new input commands. The combat abilities are still placeholder but reacting to player inputs smoothly.
  • UI elements like health bars and text boxes so we can display information to the player during gameplay. They are just placeholders for now but we can build on it.
  • All Menus have been implemented mostly as placeholders such as the Main Menu,  Settings Menu,  Pause Menu,  and Player Menu
    • Main Menu and Save Menu are fully Functional
    • Video Settings are 90% complete
  • UI Navigation has also been setup for Controller, Keyboard and Mouse
  • Save and Load System so now any game data can be saved allowing for the player to pick up where they left off. Including auto-save, manual save, multiple save slots, deleting saves, overwriting saves and a Continue option to continue from your most recent save.

For art and level design:

  • We began blocking out shapes and platforms for the Imagination level - one of the first "dream world" levels the player will explore. This is our chance to set the tone and introduce players to the dreamscapes.
  • Gathered some initial nature-themed assets like plants, rocks, and cliffs that we'll use to flesh out the environment further.

Moving forward our next priority is to implement health/damage systems so the enemies can actually fight the player and we'll create a boss encounter. We also want to support the levels with sound effects and background music to bring the environments to life.

Let us know what you think so far! We hope you're as excited as we are about how Psyche is coming together. More updates soon.
