Problem: Harder Isn't Always More Fun
Figure 1. Blue path was originally only way to get to center. Yellow was added afterwards.
THE PROBLEM
In our quest to enhance our game, we identified a new challenge: incorporating puzzles without sacrificing fun. We realized that our maze, designed with a single correct path, might become frustrating for players. Ensuring a balance between difficulty and enjoyment became crucial (Figure 1).
Figure 2. Swipe. Swipe. Die.
THE SOLUTION
Our solution was to introduce an additional route through the maze. This alternative path, while quicker and fraught with enemies and hazards, maintains the puzzle's challenge due to the risk of wrong turns (Figure 2). This strategic choice enhances the gameplay, balancing the maze's difficulty with engaging fun.
THE OUTCOME
This change has successfully struck a balance between challenge and enjoyment, aligning with our commitment to create a captivating gaming experience. Our continuous efforts in game development are driven by player feedback, guiding us to refine and improve our game.
